New year, new fish resolution
1 January 2026
New year, same tanks — but a different intention. This year I’m going to spend more time actually enjoying them.
I got into fishkeeping because I wanted something calm and alive in the corner of the room. Then I turned it into a part-time job: am I cycling? Did I overfeed? When was the last water change? I was so busy worrying that I forgot to sit down and watch the thing. So my resolution: less panic, more calm. Know what’s going on so I can stop second-guessing and just be there. App-aquatic is built around that idea — clear tracking and a bit of structure so you can have confidence instead of constant doubt. When the numbers are logged and the reminders are set, I can stop doom-scrolling my own tank and actually look at it.
I’m also going to use the tanks as proper quiet time. Five or ten minutes in the morning or evening, no phone, just the filter hum and the fish doing their thing. Meditate in front of the tank, or whatever you want to call it. The point is: the hobby is supposed to be good for you. So this year I’m treating it that way — a bit of planning, a bit of tracking, and a lot more just … being there. If that’s your resolution too, here’s to a calmer 2026.
